Marriage: you choose a person, decide you like them – a LOT, then you sign a bit of paper that says you want to spend the rest of your life with them. It’s a pretty neat concept and, when done right means a lifetime of partnership, exploration, love, picking up dirty socks off the floor two inches from the laundry bin, or trying to tactfully answer the age-old question “Does my butt look big in this?”.
It also means having someone in your corner for the rest of your life, helping you, supporting you, and also someone who is capable of grounding you, and telling you when you are being an ass. It also means that you have someone to argue with over IKEA furniture building.
While photographing weddings you meet a lot of different personalities that have tied their lives together for better, or for worse, in sickness and in health, in the eyes of whichever religion they follow. I have had the privilege of photographing couples who have found each other in their later years, young couples, and couples in the middle of their lives, couples from a Christian background, and couples from a Muslim background, and I can say one thing for all of them – LOVE ROCKS!
